However, we can use certain foods that will help us for both treatment and prevention.

How to fight depression naturally with food

For example, citrus fruits and kiwis are high in vitamin C. They help prevent fatigue and feelings of sadness, so incorporating them in your diet solve depression. Similarly, milk, cheese, yogurt and squid are high in calcium, which are essential ingredients to balance mood, so the lack of calcium causes feelings of fatigue.

The green vegetables, legumes (lentils, peas, beans) and nuts have high levels of iron, which are essential to eliminate the symptoms of depression. Red meat is also a good source of iron, so it also helps in combating fatigue and indifference leading to depression. These foods are also of particular interest to athletes who have a higher risk of deficiency due to frequent exercise.

Fish, bananas, almonds and nuts, and seeds (especially sesame and pumpkin) contain phenylalanine and tryptophan; the amino acids that are essential for the brain to produce serotonin and dopamine, which stimulate the transmitters for physical and mental activity. Similarly, chocolates also raise levels of phenylethylamine, a chemical element with stimulatory effects on the brain, very similar to euphoria and excitement, and thus increase serotonin levels.

Oats, wheat germ, whole grains, seafood, dried figs and nuts are rich in magnesium, which are essential in fighting against depression. Meanwhile, the bread has tryptophan, which helps increase serotonin levels and thus improve mood.

Among the spicy foods, chili peppers or capsaicin, trigger the release of endorphins, which are natural pain relievers and produce a temporary elevation in mood. And last but not least important: water. Poor water consumption results in lethargy and poor concentration. Just a slight dehydration decreases blood flow in many organs, endangering the body in general.

In addition to healthy foods, there are practical ways to fight depression. These are:

- Remembering what you have that you should be thankful for. Acknowledge them.

- Be grateful for these things.

- Smile and keep going. Remember that life goes on no matter happens.

- Keep yourself busy. Be productive. Any accomplishment, big or small, always makes you feel good.

- Do not give in to negative thoughts. Just do worthwhile things for yourself.

These are habits of self-love. If you love yourself, you love others too. And with this good things come naturally. And you will be happy. Depression is temporary. If you personally overcome the bitter pill of depression, you recover your strength and happiness.
